2018 is the Summer of PRIDE at My 420 Tours
In September 2017, Slate contributor Tessa Love aptly pointed out that the legalized cannabis industry has an inclusivity problem with regards to the LGBTQ community. It seems the bro-dominated industry still has some progress to make — especially considering that sexual minority groups have been found to use cannabis at a higher rate than the general population. How can the industry open its doors a little wider to its own patrons of all kinds?
Over the past five years of business, My 420 Tours has welcomed people of all orientations and walks of life on tour. We believe that cannabis is the friendliest, most social plant on the planet, and that it brings out the kindness in people. We’ve seen gay and non-binary couples bond over cannabis, helping them to celebrate the love.
Here are a few ways we’ve reached out to Colorado’s LGBTQ community this past summer.
DENVER PRIDE 2018
This was a highlight of the summer! Denver Pride has grown to be one of the biggest PRIDE celebrations in the nation. My 420 Tours was thrilled to march in Denver’s 2018 PrideFest Parade. For the occasion, we decorated one of our 420-friendly limo buses with a decal logo and PRIDE flags. We used a fog machine to create billowing clouds out the top of the bus for a “hot box” look. Nailed it.
We learned that the PrideFest Parade is all about the swag. The team handed out vape pen batteries, coupons, and tour flyers — which the crowd loved. We’ll be back next year with an even bigger team and even better swag to share with Denver’s huge population of LGBTQ supporters and celebrators.
AURORA PRIDE 2018
Following the festivities of Denver Pride, we were cordially invited to participate in the Pride celebration of our next-door neighbor city, Aurora. Aurora’s celebration had its own distinct flavor. Instead of a parade, the event featured an amazing lineup of drag artists with national-level talent.
We set up the My 420 Tours station — complete with our 420 photo booth — in the event’s VIP section and showed our support for Aurora’s LGBTQ community with a PRIDE-exclusive offer of buy-one-get-one-free tour tickets. A highlight of the day was a photo shoot with the drag celebrities and a chance to chat with them about cannabis at the meet and greet. We’re excited to watch this event grow bigger and bigger each year.
ONE COLORADO ALLY AWARDS
As one more act of PRIDE, we donated four tour tickets to the Ally Awards celebration, hosted by One Colorado. We were touched by the following note we received:
“Thank you for your generous donation of two tickets for the Greenhouse Grow Tour and two tickets for the Buds and Beers Tour to One Colorado’s Ally Awards silent auction. Because of donors like My 420 Tours, One Colorado has a significant opportunity to secure and protect equality and opportunity for LGBTQ Coloradoans and their families in the months and years ahead. From transgender equality, to safe schools, to equal access to our health systems — we could not do this important work without supporters like you.”
Keep fighting the good fight, One Colorado! We’ll look forward to hosting your four silent auction winners on tour.
